From the Desk of the President - February 2021

COVID-19 UPDATE: I have been trying to get information as to when the Covid-19 vaccinations will be available to us and where we can get it.  Not so easy to get since no sites with dates are available as of this message.  I hope that this is the year we can all get back to a normal way of life for I, as you, miss seeing our children and grandchildren as we once did.  My understanding is that Holiday City South will possibly become a site that will be used to give the vaccinations when available.
DUES REMINDER: Please remember that Association dues are due at the beginning of each quarter and NOT at the end of the year.  Our bills come in monthly not yearly.  Last year (2020) was a very bad year for storm damage to our trees, especially the storm we had in early summer.  That storm did more damage than Sandy, the hurricane.  The Association spent more than $250,000.00 for tree destruction.  Dues this year are $60.00 per quarter or $240.00 per year.  For those of you that have their banks automatically send checks every quarter, please inform them of the change.  We still get checks for $45.00 a quarter which only puts you further in arrears every year.  Please note that there is a mail slot in our main front door to drop your dues envelopes into.  They are picked up every day.
Mold was discovered in our lower level.  I have had two companies come in to assess the situation and have spoken to our insurance company about coverage, and was told that we did have mold coverage.  Then I got the phone call telling me that we didn’t have coverage for mold coverage.  Needless to say, our insurance rep was not happy with my comments. The cost will be approximately $18,000.00 to clean up the lower level which includes all furniture to be dis-infected and a cleanup of the whole lower facility.  Fortunately, our R & R account will pay for this problem.
This year is the time for our election of new officers for the Association. We will be holding elections this year to elect a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for a two year term June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2023. We need volunteers to step up and take the helm of this Association.  These are volunteer positions and the time has come for people to step forward to take over.
We will also vote for new trustees for all sections. Even numbered sections will be for a one year term, June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2022, to get into our regular rotation since we did not have an election last year due to the pandemic.  Odd numbered sections will be for a regular two year term, June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2023.   The schedule is in this month’s Sentinel for those of you that wish to nominate someone and/or run.  We ask that a brief resume also be submitted by anyone running for any office.  “Call for nomination” letters will be sent to all homeowners on March 1, 2021 and will be due back in the office by 12 NOON on March 15, 2021.
I am working on a schedule with Rita, our vice president.  Dates will follow and weather permitting will hold voting in the parking lot if we are still closed.  Ballots will be mailed out to all homeowners for those who wish to vote by mail.  
REMEMBER, you have to be a member in good standing to nominate or run for any of these positions.  That means dues must be current and there are no infractions against you.  Section trustees must be a resident of that section which they are running for, I am getting phone calls regarding AARP Tax preparation.  Last year they decided to cut the tax season short due to the virus.  There is a program available called FULFILL NJ and they can be called after January 18, 2021 at 732-643-5888.  They will be there from January 25th through April 15th.  Please stop calling the office requesting information about this.
