Editor's Note - January 2023

Happy New Year! This year has flown right by. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I started making a list of my New Year resolutions, and after tapping my pen on the table for a bit, I crumbled up the paper and threw it away. Being kind to your neighbors, giving a helping hand to those in need and just a simple hello and an exchange of words is one of the biggest things anyone can do to make someone’s life a lot better. That is my continuing resolution for 2023.

I want to share with you a lot of the exciting things coming up this year. First, I’d like to give a big thank you to Lorraine Fleming for all her years of service as president of the recreation committee. I’m sure it was hard to say goodbye but I’m sure she will enjoy her free time going on wonderful adventures with her husband. This was all made possible when Virginia Sansone stepped in to take the reins. Virginia has so many awesome ideas and is busy at work to bring them alive. Thank you Virginia for taking on this feat for our community.

Joe McCurnin has also retired. A colossal thank you to Joe for all his years of service as president of the men’s club.  He has passed the torch to Tom Kalinowsky who is already busy at work. Both Tom and Virginia are working hard to make these transitions flawless. Watch out for all the thrilling events coming up this year.

My resolution for the Sentinel for this coming year is to bring you more information of what’s going on in our neighborhood. Next month I’ll have the Calendar of events for Downtown Toms River and I’ll keep you informed of any other activities going on around town. If you know of anything going on, please let me know so I can include it in future issues of the Sentinel. The deadline for the February issue is January, 13th.  You can email me at: [email protected] or you can call me. If you’re having an event, please contact our resident photographer Vicki Kokanek to take pictures. Vicki has been invaluable to me this past year and her pictures are all top notch.

From my family to yours, I’m wishing you and your family a happy and healthy New Year! And as usual, take a few minutes to check on your neighbors. A simple gesture of kindness goes a long way!
