President's Message - March 2021

We are entering the month of March and quickly headed toward our call for candidates for open seats on the Board of Trustees.  As always, we will be opening the nomination process in accordance with the requirements of the Radburn Act, which governs our nomination and election process.  Homeowners/members of the association will be receiving a mailing with information regarding the nomination of candidates before April 1st. The same information will be published in the April edition of the Southwind along with a timeline.  This year there will be three seats available, and as always, the Board is looking for qualified members of the community to step up and fill the terms for three-year commitments.  The current Board is solid and is constantly working to improve the association and its amenities, while maintaining spending levels that are below the anticipated budget.  The Board wants to continue down that path and create a solid financial future for the association.  With that being said, if you feel you have the background or the interest in serving your community, consider placing your name in nomination for the seats that will become available and decided in the June election.  When considering serving on behalf of the members, please understand that this is not a part time venture. Individuals who decide to run and possibly fill the seats on the Board of Trustees have a fiduciary responsibility to the community.  They will not only participate in the day-to-day operations of the association, but will also be involved in the Senior Coalition of Berkeley Township and Ocean County.  We are now in the midst of very tenuous times with the health issues and legal ramifications of COVID-19 hanging over our heads.  Prospective candidates must be aware there will be considerable pressure applied from all sides based on personal bias and individual thought processes.  It is imperative for all candidates to realize that decisions made must be made in the best interest of the association and all its members, both financially and legally.  Individuals who choose to become candidates must be aware that should they be successful in their candidacy they will be responsible for an association that maintains an annual business budget in excess of 1.4 million dollars per year.

They will need to review and understand engineering reserve studies that provide vital information which will move our association forward over the next five to ten years.  It goes without saying that the position of Trustee on the Board of Holiday City South Homeowners’ Corporation comes with considerable responsibility that must reflect the best interest of every member in our 2359 home association.  If you believe you are up for the challenge, please follow the instructions on the nomination of candidacy document and file the application for nomination per the instructions on the form.

I’ll end this month’s message with the following quote by a great American, President Theodore Roosevelt:  “The best executive is one who has sense enough to pick good people to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.”  I have fallen back on these words many times during my career and have always found them to be helpful in providing successful results and good leaders.  Your current Board looks forward to election results that can provide valuable assets in the way of leadership for the association and its members.

I also want to let everyone know that efforts to have our members vaccinated on site (at the clubhouse) are still being pursued.  We have run into stumbling blocks from Trenton, but have found allies in Ocean County Senior Services as well as the Ocean County Health Dept.  Our application to the County for use of our clubhouse was submitted at the beginning of the year, and at this time we are awaiting approval and for the State to provide a sufficient number of vaccines to allow the onsite application to be approved.  Mayor Amato and the township council have been diligent in providing support for our seniors by applying pressure to the powers that be, in the hope of expediting the availability and distribution of the vaccine to the 14,000+ seniors “at risk” in Berkeley Township.  The Council also created and sent a resolution to the corporate headquarters of CVS requesting they consider using their location at 51 Bananier to distribute vaccines to the adult communities in Berkeley.  I will keep everyone updated as we continue to move forward with these efforts.

Hopefully, we will see each other soon.  Until then please stay safe and healthy.

My best to everyone,
Mike Signorile
President
