A Message from Councilwoman Sophia Gingrich - January 2021

January 2021 — A Happy and Healthy New Year is wished to all!

Our wish is that 2021 brings us good health and normalcy in our everyday life.

January birthstone symbol is Garnet.  January's birth flower, the carnation, comes in several different colors to convey different meanings, much like roses. A pink carnation means affection, while a red carnation means “I love you”.  For the folks out there who follow the zodiac, Capricorn is the period of December 22nd through January 19th, and Aquarius is January 20th through February 18th.

Since it is the beginning of a new year, many people like to discard old medicines. Ocean County presently has prescription/medicine drop-off boxes for county residents to use to dispose of their unused or expired prescriptions.  These drop-off boxes are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  Please contact the Ocean County Health Department with any questions.  Phone: 732-341-9700

Locations are:
Berkeley Township Police Department - 631 Pinewald-Keswick Rd., Bayville
Toms River Police Department - Oak Avenue entrance of the Police Department.

Be at War with your Vices, at Peace with your Neighbors,
and let every New Year find you a better Man.
Quoted in Benjamin Franklin's 1755

A new report has been given that one in ten people are in need of assistance.  If you find yourself or an acquaintance in need of food please come to our Monthly Food Bank.  The next Food Bank delivery will be January 24th, 2020.   The Food Bank agency also offers guidance and assistance to citizens in need.  While the Food Bank is here delivering food,  an advisor for Social Services will answer any questions regarding what is offered by the County.  Don’t miss out, if you need help, please come and meet with an advisor.  There is complete privacy and your information is kept strictly confidential.
This past year it was brought to my attention that there are residents living here in our community who are “shut- in’s”.  A shut-in is someone who can’t or doesn’t drive, has difficulty walking and they are going without many basic needs.  We have helped several residents who are shut-in’s.  Please call our number to give us your name and we will make arrangements to help.

“SUPPORT WOMEN IN THE MILITARY”
We have received many items for the women in the military.  I would like to personally thank each person for their support.  Lloyd Mullikin has picked up all the products delivered to me and I am still receiving items. The items received are so appreciated by women in the military. Postage is needed to help with the expense of mailing packages, please donate (any amount is appreciated) money for postage.
Make the check out to:
VFW Post 9503
383 Veterans Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721
We have a special account set up for postage, and the VFW’s Commander Dave Ballentine  monitors the money collected and pays for each package.  Any donations made whether it is items being donated or money, is a tax deduction.
Again, Thank you,  God Bless you all for your support.

If you need to speak to me, please call me, I am here to assist you.
