The Holiday City at Berkeley Civic & Legislative Committee

The purpose of the Holiday City at Berkeley Civic and Legislative Committee is to inform seniors of legislative matters affecting our communities. We are a nonpartisan working committee. We aim to gather, analyze and communicate information in a timely manner. Our ambition is to give seniors the tools to be proactive, as well as reactive.

The Holiday City at Berkeley Civic and Legislative Committee has contacted our 9th Legislative District Office. The delegation has provided its legislative activities which affect seniors.

Despite objections from Senator Carmen F. Amato, Assemblymen Brian E. Rumpf and Gregory E. Myhre to JCP&L request for 24% rate increase; electric bills increased 8.6 in our area. Some attribute the increase to Governor Phil Murphy's energy Master Plan; which closed fuel plants prematurely.

Our committee has not investigated whether there is a relationship between increased rates and the off-shore wind turbines. According to Save The East Coast, a concerned citizens group; research from the University of Washington School of Medicine found that the off-shore turbines' low frequency sound causes accelerated and progressive hearing loss, nausea, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, tinnitus and dizziness.

Another serious concern is elder fraud. Bill S1887/A4593 was created for Offense of Elderly Financial Exploration. Seniors sixty years or older and suffering from either infirmity or mental disease will have protection if passed into law.

Let's keep in touch with our 9th Delegation and others, making the New Year even better!
