Code Committee Corner

Some questions have come up about leaves and tree clippings.

These are some of the county’s ordinances, about garden refuse.

# 20-1.7 All clippings hedge, shrubbery or tree clippings and garden refuse cannot exceed 48 inches in length, and 24 inches in diameter and must be securely tied in bundles.

Leaves, grass cuttings and weeds will be accepted for collection shall be placed in plastic bags, or in securely tied burlap bags, protected from wetness. [1974 Code 72-7; Ordinance # 86.20.

17-3.8 Leaves and Other Debris It is unlawful for any person, corporation or entity to throw, deposit, sweep or otherwise cause to be put onto the surface of any street or avenue of the Township any leaves, grass sweepings, litter, broken glass, metal, dirt or any other refuse or debris. [ 1974 Code 117-7.1; Ordinance # 28-0-81].

All these acts are summons-able, anyone can notify the police department, and give the address of the offender.

The association has no rules on the books pertaining to leaf disposal. But common sense should dictate if you put debris into the street it will blow back onto your property or your neighbors, so bag them and avoid a summons.
